Question: What do you understand by the fact that He is “Almighty”?
That His omnipotence is not something stagnant but something powerful and effective or active.
Just as He created all creatures by His omnipotence, He also upholds them with His power — with His hand, as it were — and so regulates everything by His providence that nothing happens except through Him by His regulation. This is so that we, on that basis, might submit ourselves completely in true faith to such a mighty and provident Father, whose hand and might controls all things and whose power no one can withstand.
Since, then, we have a covenant and eternal reconciliation with the almighty God, it is certain that no creature’s might can do us harm. “No one shall snatch my little sheep out of my hand,” says Christ in John 10:28. “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than them all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hands. I and the Father are one.” John 10:29,30. See also Romans 8:38,39
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
